About

What the mango is about

There are so many topics I’m interested in. I love digging deep into topics to understand how they work. A lot of my experiments come from curiosity.

Current AI helps me to dig into topics I would never have time for. But the whole ideation and steering is still a product of my guidance. And I feel that this makes a huge difference.

Some of the knowledge and experiments grow useful enough that I use them every day. I like to share that. That’s what the blog is for. Maybe you’ll find some inspiration or use in it, too.

About MagneticMango

This was a working title for a domain for my vserver first. I stayed with it because it grew close to my heart. The color orange, mango as a fruit I love and the attraction of things that fascinate me.

Honestly, it was a pick from about 15 titles that fell out of a brainstorming session. But here we are.

Claude helped me make a design system that I really like, a cute mascot and the whole base for the blog.

To give credit where it’s due: it is very inspired by the Kanade and Shirone Astro themes and by cyberpunk aesthetics. Obviously I have a thing for retrowave, vaporwave, cyberpunk, solarpunk… you get it.

About me

I’m Michael. Booster. Mango. You may know me by other names.

Professional

Software Engineer, M.Sc. Fluently communicates in German and English.

I specialized in image processing first, with early neural networks and of course OpenCV.

My affection for Blender and everything 3D got me into the 3D visualization department that… I actually started at my former employer. My main project still exists, and it helped me make one of my biggest dreams come true: attending SIGGRAPH. Multiple times. Meeting amazing people and sharing knowledge and ideas. You can see that it helped shape me and my goals.

Over time I found my way back to my other roots: AI. Especially working with LLMs and local AI. I have very mixed feelings about that whole tech, but since it is here and we are not gonna get rid of it, I will do my best to explore how to use it best for my goals.

Areas

  • Image processing: OpenCV, AI (detection, generation), work with image processing software (for example Photoshop, Krita, G’MIC), deep knowledge about color spaces
  • 3D visualization: Blender, Babylon.js, three.js, manual low-level
  • AI: deep neural networks, CNNs, GPT-like LLMs, local hosting, image and video generation, OSS around these (llama.cpp, Open WebUI, ComfyUI, …), working with API providers, working with frontier models
  • DevOps: managing Linux systems, Docker/Podman, some Kubernetes

Technologies

  • Languages: Python, TypeScript, C++
  • OS: Linux (Arch, NixOS), formerly Windows (since 3.1) and macOS (Intel Mac days)
  • Frontend: TypeScript, React, Mantine

Personal

  • Closing in on the big 40 but still not wanting to admit it.
  • Music: EDM, dance, trance, deep house, liquid DnB, classic rock, smooth jazz… a lot.
  • Styles: as mentioned before: retro-futuristic (retrowave), optimistic (solarpunk), glitchy (vaporwave), techy (cyberpunk)
  • Gaming: casual, non-competitive, racing, sim, VR
